Design Concept

In this project, we will try to design a poster. A poster that will show you, about creative industry from the creative aspect.

We want to show the creative industry that will bright the night, the metaphor as creative industry is the major economy to the world one day.

Stage 2. Essay

What is Creative Multimedia? Creative Multimedia is actually separated by two words which is creative and multimedia. Creative is actually an ability to create something new. Something more interesting and new to us, it also can be defined as a new idea. While multimedia is a combination of many media. That is why we called it “multi-media”. It includes text, audio, still images, animation, video and interactivity content forms. That is the basic understanding of creative multimedia. As I can see, creative multimedia has a wide range of meaning. It can be in terms of industries, educations and more. As for now, let us take a look at industries, creative industries. Creative Industries is the industries that interact with creativity. It refers to a range of economic activities which are concerned with the generation or exploitation of knowledge and information. Today, the term is more widely used and understood, in a knowledge economy the importance of these industries to national wealth is more commonly recognized, and the special needs of these industries are reflected more in policy development at national, regional and sub-regional levels. The creative industries have moved from fringes to the mainstream.

Today, people are depending on oil consumption. Oil plays an important role in today’s economy. As we all know, these oil are actually came from petroleum and these petroleum has been excavated from all over the world. The government produces oil in large quantities because of the extensive use from the society. Nowadays, oil are widely use as fuel for vehicles or as the breeding material. The government itself has discovered new things that can be produced by oil including plastic, pharmaceuticals, solvents, fertilizers and pesticides. Due to these new discoveries, the government has developed more industries that interact with oil such as oil industries that produces cooking oil, plastic goods, pesticides and fertilizers. And the government itself has to develop more oil producers such as PETRONAS; a company from Malaysia, SHELL from US and BHP from British. This proves that the world really depends on oil to generate their economy.

But do remember that oil is non-renewable sources and it is not possible that these sources of energy will extinct. And when the times come, what is going to happen? What will replace it? PETRONAS and other producers are required no more. And what kind of industry will replace all the current industries? This is the time for Creative Industries to replace them. What can they do in order to fix the problem? Globally, Creative Industries will provide the job opportunities and indirectly this will decrease the number of unemployment and the economy will back on its track again. When this is happen, the country will depend on it in order to generate their economy. Within the creative industries sector and again taking the UK as an example, the three largest sub-sectors are design, publishing, television and radio. Together these account for around 75% of revenues and 50% of employment. There may be a tendency for publicly-funded creative industries development services to inaccurately estimate the number of creative businesses during the mapping process. There are many examples of developed countries that have creative industries as one of the important economy such as UK, USA and Hong Kong. These countries use creative industry to generate their economy in certain ways. Hollywood is good in producing new movies with creative and great visual effects. It is time for Hollywood to help USA to generate their economy by selling their entertainment such as films, games, software and more. These kinds of products are really gets a lot of response from all over the world so it really helps the economy.

There are more products such as crafts, visual art. These are kind of products that are potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property. Creative Industries can be in many ways and even music is one of them. Music or performing art is the best way of generate economy because of it is easy to get ones attention. Nowadays, people are easily get attracted by music. They would pay hundreds to watch their favourite performance. This will helps the country to generate their economy in entertainment. Apart from that, there are some activities that we called “creative writing”. Creative Writing can be considered as novel, poem, short stories and even writing for stage like stage and playwriting. Let us take novel for example. Novel is another best selling products.

So, based on all point given above, I think creative industries are really important not only for economy but for us. Creative Industries helps to generate the economy and really help us in achieving a better life. The world needs this industry. It actually develops the world in many ways. That’s all I can say for now.

Metaphor.

First, what is Metaphor?
-a figure of speech in which an expression is used to refer to something that it does not literally denote in order to suggest a similarity

-A metaphor is an analogy between two objects or ideas; the analogy is conveyed by the use of a metaphorical word in place of some other word. For example: "Her eyes were glistening jewels".-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphor

Whats the different between Metaphor , Analogy and Simile?
A metaphor is a figure of speech that uses one thing to mean another and makes a comparison between the two. The key words here are “one thing to mean another.” So, when someone says “He’s become a shell of a man,” we know not to take this literally, even though it’s stated directly as if this person had actually lost his internal substance.

A simile compares two different things in order to create a new meaning. In this case, we are made explicitly aware that a comparison is being made due to the use of “like” or “as” (He’s like a shell of a man). For fun, the next time someone corrects you and says “That’s a simile, not a metaphor,” you can respond by letting them know that a simile is a type of metaphor, just like sarcasm is a type of irony. Resist the urge to be sarcastic in your delivery.

An analogy is comparable to metaphor and simile in that it shows how two different things are similar, but it’s a bit more complex. Rather than a figure of speech, an analogy is more of a logical argument. The presenter of an analogy will often demonstrate how two things are alike by pointing out shared characteristics, with the goal of showing that if two things are similar in some ways, they are similar in other ways as well.

Juxtaposition in real life

In my course ecspecially, that is Media Innovation, Juxtaposition is really important. As we will becoming a advertising designer, we must know how to delivery something differently, that can touch the people, or attract the people to the product.

So, that is great to discuss, how we can use the juxtaposition into the art.
By the way, this is the great example, of how a artist use juxtaposition in his art.

http://www.designobserver.com/media/pdf/Patterns_of_As_1319.pdf

To me, juxtaposition make the artworks become more "life". I dont know how to describe. Lets say the film without comparison, without metaphore, seriously it will become the sucks movie to watch. Same with artworks, it need something to make people to feel it alive. Isnt it?

This is the a example of ad that using the concept:

This one, is a example of juxtaposition concept on architecture.

A photo essay by Camilo Jose Vergaga in Camden, New Jersey, explores the stark juxtaposition of living architecture and deserted buildings.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition is placing two variables side by side to compare and contrast their similarities or differences. It is used as popular approach in creative process.

There are two types of juxtaposition, literary and random juxtaposition.

In other words, many designers use Juxtaposition in their artwork to show contrast and to seek the target audience.

Photographers also use juxtaposition to bring balance to their photos.

Many literary works also use juxtaposition to further the plot and provide a sense of context to the events that occur.

Filmmakers juxtapose different forms of media in their films, such as pictures and music, to create images the viewer will not forget.

Examples of film that use juxtaposition is "A Clock Orange"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066921/. The song "Singin' in the Rain" is played over a scene featuring violent rape. The contrast between the upbeat song and the sinister images creates a very memorable image for the viewer.

The video can be view here.

I cant embed the video to this post as the account user doesnt allowed to do it.

So thats the example of Juxtaposition that I understand.

Creative Mindmapping

Before learning how to map a good creative mind mapping. I never believe mind mapping is the best way to make solution. I dont like to do mind mapping before this. To me, mind mapping is not useful.

But after my lecterur, Mr. Yap Sau Bin and Mr. Radzi Bedu teach us how to do creative mind mapping. Yes, I admit. It is very useful. I am wrong.

Min mapping is a great way to think. Futhermore, we are the future multimedia designer. Mind mapping is actually very important to us to make creative idea from some hot keyword.

Below, I found the example when searching in google.

This is a great mind mapping about Time Machine. See from the mind map, we can see how the drawer of the mind map explore potential for innovating backwards with the Time Machine.

When we talk about being creative when invent something, I remember a documentary, I watched when I still in highschool. It is about a group of designers, sailor who want to invents a boat, or yacht.

All of them try to create a new looking yacht that will function better than the yacht that already exist in this world. They try to create something new, fresh, anti-pollution, and even create a new land for us(they said, maybe someday the land will be crowded with human, so wee ned new land, that is the yacth itself)

Below, I share some pictures and stories about the future yatch invent from our designers and inventors. Who always think creative to create something new and fresh.

This is The Wallypower 118 Super Yacht. And its already official sail on the water. This one is designed to satisfy the sailors, who always want a luxority yacht, with latest technology and powerfull engine. (source)
This is EarthRace Biodiesel Powerboat. This boat t is powered by the sun and eco-friendly biodiesel. (source)

This one is The Sea Shadow Stealth Warship. Created for military purpose. he Sea Shadow Stealth Warship is invisible to most radar systems of the 20th century, which is what made it a Navy secret until recently. (source)
This is The Oasis of the Seas Cruise Ship. The world’s largest cruise ship– you’re looking at it. While below it, the image of the Oasis of the Seas.(source)
To discuss this topic, first we must know the definition.

What is Novelty?
To me, Novelty is freshness, originality. According to wordnetweb website, Novelty is "freshness: originality by virtue of being refreshingly novel".

What is the definition for Creativity?
From wordnetweb.com , creativity is the ability to create.

Innovation?
Innovation is "invention: a creation (a new device or process) resulting from study and experimentation" (http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=innovation)

And what is Invention??
A creation (a new device or process) resulting from study and experimentation
(http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=invention)

From the word itself, we know all these thing have a connection with our ability to think creative.
From the past, we know that there were many person who think something unique and useful to our life.

As an example. Humphry Davy. You can google him up. Or click this link if you want to know the full plot of his life.

Humpry Davy is a man who invented the 1st light bulb. His creative idea made people nowadays live more comfortly isnt it? This man is a really great man. His creative idea, made himself to think a new fresh idea and then invent a light bulb, that lighted up all the houses in this modern era.

From here you can see, being creative is not only about art. It is about our life itself. Try to being creative in all way of our life.

But becareful, as what our lecturer said in class, people sometimes misunderstood creativity with innovation.

But then, we know, that creativity fall into four part, that is :
  • Aesthetic Organizers.
  • Boundary Pushers — those who take an existing idea and push it a little further.
  • Inventors — those who take existing knowledge and create new ideas — the Edisons of this world.
  • The rarest group: Boundary Breakers — the Leonardos and the Copernicuses.
( A paraphrasing of Elliot Eisner (1933-), American art educator)
So yes, in conlusion, we know that we here is all creative people. But to be more creative, we need to learn! Gain more knowledge.

Creative Billboard!

In this entry, I will share more how the designers out there do the advertising, ecspecially using billboard in creative way to publish it to the people.
This is the billboard for vacuum product. See there how you can how the designer spread the message creatively about the vacuum untill it can sucks the giant air balloon. More below here.

Isnt it look creative?
This one also the creative and intelligent billboard.

Isnt these creative billboard is more fun and more attractive compare to typical billboard to people to see? This is some of the examples in the world, the works of creative people that can made you think crazy.

What is Creativity?

Creativity is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others. (page 396)
From Human Motivation, 3rd ed., by Robert E. Franken
http://www.csun.edu/~vcpsy00h/creativity/define.htm

This is definition of creativiy from Human Motivation Book, written by Robert E. Franken. To me, as a creative multimedia student, it is important to us, to think creatively. Not only by thinking outside the box, but think beyond than that. As creative as possible.

It is important to us, to think creatively. Not only for our artworks, but also in our life. How we choose the path for our life.

As an example, "creative" thinking needed, when you try to decorate your house, flirt with somebody. Isnt it also a needed for us to think creatively?

In order to be creative, we need to see something from different perspective. As we can see from the image I uploaded below,

From this typical advertising billboard, the designer do it creatively,

and came with the creative ideas, to do the creative billboard, like this.

Isnt it more fun to look?

This is why, think creative is important to me, to us, ecspecially me, a Media Innovation student who will face the advertising design once I graduate from MMU.

Creative !

Creative Studies. Seems like a fun subject to hear.

What is my expectation for this class?
Of course, the main thing, to be as creative as possible! Creative to solving the problems. Creative to create the problems. Creative to think about some issues. Creative to finish my assignments. In other word, the main thing I expect is I know the step to think out of the box, to be creative!

To me, this is the main process, as a become-to-be multimedia designer, should understand what is creative thinking and how to solve the problems. Besides that, as what my lecturer list on the slide he uploaded on MMLS ;

Demonstrate an awareness of how design is influenced by society, culture, and the environment and discuss this in relation to personal beliefs and values

I hope I will understand it better in this class. By the way, this is a nice animation clip about Creativity.

http://www.youtube.com/user/edjeniem

I hope I will be creative enough after this.
